Zoe,
I had the same lust, looked at a few "Vintage" Airstreams and bit the bullet 
and ordered a new one.  It comes off the line the end of August and I hope to 
be using it by the first week of Sep.
 
I decided I am not clever enough to be the steward of a grand old AS.  Better 
to create a new tradition.
