Jack,
Do you have a 1500 or 2500 Avalanche? If it is a 1500 then what is the load 
rating of your tires?  I had D range tires on my 1500 Z71 while pulling my 
'77 31' Excella 500 and it seemed to want to do the same thing from time to 
time.  My 2500hd with E rated tires stopped that.
