Hmmmm...  A serious charge, for sure.  I pondered, composed and edited my
reply for perhaps 10 minutes before hitting the send button.  Let's see if I
can elucidate...

Your question suggests that you believe, in the absence of a pair of CROSSED
safety chains, a safety chain has no value.  I disagree.

I'm sorry.  I did not intend to be argumentative.

I hope that makes things right.

While ANY safety chain is better than NO safety chain, a PAIR of them,
CROSSED beneath the coupler, is best.

That is, of course, unless towing down a particularly ROUGH road in Alaska.
