Hi Robert
I towed a 5500lb International with an 89 Crown Vic for about 4 years. I
didn't have the big engine, just the 305. It did the job, but not with the
elan that my current Suburban 2500 does. 
One thing I would caution however, is to get it set up by someone who knows
how to do this. It is really essential that all the balancing bars, position
of the hitch etc, be in the correct location and tension.
