There are several possible applications for that switch.

1.)  Most probable, is the switch for the exterior curbside electrical 
outlet; or for the detachable porch light.  The detachable porch light 
was an option that disappeared after the 1960s, but was found on 
Airstreams as well as several competing makes of the same time period 
(my parents 1969 Sunway Truck Camper had one).  You can see a photo of

The actual fixture is rather difficult to find, in fact, I have never 
actually found a complete fixture.  I have, however, found several NOS 
globes (I have two globes carefully packed away just in case my 
original becomes the victim of a mishap).

2.  Another application that was common on some coaches prior to 1969 
was as a power swith for the ceiling fans -- my '64 Overlander has a 
switch that had to be thrown to activate the circuit for the two 
ceiling vent fans.

3.  It might also control the outlet below the front window -- I know 
of one '64 Sovereign that had a switch in the location that you 
describe, and it contolled the electrical outlet found below the front 
window where an optional mini-table lamp was to be plugged-in.

If you have an owners' manual for your coach, the switch "may" be 
described in the manual -- I know that the switch for my porch light 
was not described in my '64 Overlander's owners' manual.
