RE: [A/S] Drapery fabrics

Everyone has his (or her) own taste, so one gets into a value judgement as
to the style and pattern for an interior. As an old student of design, I
offer the following:

Alexander Girard (the mid century, award winning fabric designer for Herman
Miller) once noted that drapery fabric patterns should be two (not three)
dimensional. That way they get their depth from the pleats in the fabric.
Also, drapes should have a receding pattern - otherwise they tend to jump at
you.

Note that when you are putting drapes in a small space [your Airstream] the
last thing you want is anything that will give the visual impression of a
smaller area. Thus, darker colors and busy patterns are best avoided.

Also note that Mr. Ambruso uses a special insulated liner fabric which
reduces interior (and drapery fabric) sun damage.

Over the long haul, you will probably be happier with a less spectacular
looking drapery fabric. This is not to say that you cannot find a fabric
more to your liking than what Mr. Ambruso has to offer. I think a more
neutral background with bright personal accents is a preferable option over
a busier more "decorated" background which tends to compete with personal
accent items.
