Your experience sounds like what we had the few times we used our
Buick station wagon to move our Airstream. It was a pretty scary
experience. We had much better luck with the 69 Caddy with a
professionally installed hitch. We did not use equalizer bars with it,
but it was very stable without them. We tried to keep the weight back
towards the axles and towed with empty holding tanks.
