If openrx wants to use a cover on his Airstream, then that 
is his choice. I do object to his blanket statement that 
using one is perfectly OK, and that the advice of Charlie 
Burke is jibberish.

I have looked at a lot of Airstreams in the last 5 years, 
many of them older ones, and there is no question in my mind 
that putting a cover on has resulted in abrasion to the 
skin. No cover is going to sit still in the wind and even 
one with a soft interior is going to rub.  Replacing the 
clearcoat is very very expensive, and must be done by 
professionals.  Polishing an uncoated trailer is a huge 
investment in time and energy, moreso if there are scratches 
to remove.

I am also confident that if a cover was a good idea, 
Airstream would be selling them at a fat profit.

So if you must, go right ahead and cover, but note that so 
far no one has agreed that covering is OK.

And besides, if you cover it, you won't know where it is 
leaking until you are far from home trying to sleep in a wet 
bed.
