RE: [A/S] Campground books

Hi Judy,
There are several "Campground Directories" out there to use. The major ones
I am aware of, and use, are Trailer Life and Woodall's BIG Directories.
Woodall's has theirs available in sections for the WEST and EAST divisions
of the US. The big book is just the two in one cover. These two books have
listings of most campgrounds in the US, and some outside the US. I have
found that most campgrounds are listed in both, but some campgrounds only
list with one of the two. You will find some campgrounds are not listed with
either of the directories. KOA also has a book that only shows all their
campgrounds, but no one else's, in the US. You can pick them up for free, I
think in any KOA campground, if you stay there for the night at least. I use
all three of these when I am traveling on long trips.
Trailer Life puts out an Atlas that has little "Balloons" on the map and the
font of the town with the listing made larger and bold for all the listings
in their big book. I find this handy. You just look at your route, and
decide about where you would like to spend the night and see if there is a
"Balloon" for a campground. You can then look up the town name by the
Balloon in their big book to find out the listings in that town. There may
be only one or there may be several listed under a ballooned town name.
All three of these services have a web site that allows you to search their
data base on line. Trailer Life has their BIG Directory available on a CD
that can be loaded on your lap top. It has the ability to do trip planning,
and linking up with a GPS unit on your lap top for mapping software. Their
mapping software gets better every year, and some day may be good enough to
stand alone for trip planning.
The BIG Directories are about $15 each, and the CD from Trailer Life is
about $35 this year. All of these can be ordered on line, if you don't have
a place close by your house to purchase what you want.
