While it's not a book, one of my favorite web sites is

If you are planning a trip in advance with your book, you could always 
look up reviews, if any are posted.  Some of the comments that 
frequently come up in reviews are that if a campground buys a large ad 
in one of those directories they get a great score, even if the place 
is a dump.  Others may have been family campgrounds at one time but 
have been converted to low rent long term RV parks, with shady 
residents.
