Finding information about decoding equipment codes on used vehicles 
more than two or three years old can be difficult on the Internet 
(other than asking specific questions on Make/Marque forums 
regarding a particular vehicle).  The last time that I checked, the 
Trailer Life website had towing specification for vehicles going 
back to 1999 - - see:  http://www.trailerlife.com/output.cfm?id=42175

A resource that may be available would be back issues of Trailer 
Life - - many local libraries subscribe and may have cataloged back 
issues.  While researching at my local University Library, I found 
bound volumes of Trailer Life going back to the early 1970s.  The 
library might also be a source for back issues of Edmunds New Car 
Guides that contain the codes for optional factory equipment.
