One other thing to check for that I just found.  When I removed the 
burner to clean it the spiral baffle fell out. The wire that held  in 
place had rusted thru. I had to pull the frig out into the aisle to get 
to the top of the flue to replace the hanger wire. I replaced the wire 
with stainless wire. Maybe it will last another 40 years.  The problem I 
was chasing was sub-par performance of the frig on gas. I guess the 
baffle has been out of place for a long time. I made the new wire so as 
to position the baffle in the same place in the flue that the electric 
heater is.  This was on a 60's model (# 624) Norcold.
