When a tear happens to the sheetmetal on your Airstream, the metal 
also stretches.

To weld the stretch closed should prove to be a disaster.

Also, heating the metal with TIG welding, will cause it to 
considerably warp. Again, not good.

It is better to plate it and then cover it will a decal of some type, 
if you wish. Of course, tyou should put a sealer, like vulkem, under 
neath the edges of the plate.

You can also plate the tears, and install a fake louver over the 
plate.

Only you will know the difference.
