This isn't the answer you are looking for but adds more fodder to the 
issue...!

We had the 'old' Earthmate  with serial port for Street Atlas. Then 
we bought Street & Trips 2003 and bought a generic USB GPS while at 
Escapade - were told the GPS would work with both DeLorme's and 
Microsoft's. It DOES, beautifully. It works with my DeLorme Street 
Atlas Version 8 AND with the Streets & Trips 2003. Here is info for
