RE: [A/S]Heat pumps was Storm Doors

All air conditioning units are a type of a heat pump with the unit "pumping"
the heat from inside to outside leaving colder air inside as a result.  When
a unit is labeled as a Heat Pump that indicates that it is capable of
reversing the pumping action and taking heat from outside and putting it
inside.  There is always some heat available outside even in really chilly
temps.  As mentioned, heatpumps work well down to the upper 30s temps and
then need help.  In the factory installed Dometic HeatPumps, the digital
thermostat controls both the heatpump and the gas furnace.  At temps above
35degrees, the heat pump runs and below, the thermostat automatically
switches to the gas furnace. We have this setup on our Bambi and it works
great and we always know that if the temps drop too low, the gas furnace
will kick in to heat the holding tanks as well as the trailer.

A heat strip is basically just like the element in your electric toaster.  A
wire element is heated by electricity and air is blown over it.  Heat strips
are simple and will take the chill off a rig, but they are incapable of
outputting the amount of heat that a HeatPump can offer.  Also, the
automatic switching to the gas furnace is not an option on heat strip units.
