An F100 is a 1/2 ton truck with a relatively light rear suspension.  
I don't know what the tow capacity is listed at, but I would try to 
find that information out before towing.  You also need to know the 
weight of the trailer.  Your question is basically a math problem.  
If the trailer exceeds the truck's tow rating, don't do it.

Another part of the equation, however, is the strength of the 
suspension system.  A 1971 is an old truck that may have lost 
strength in its suspension system.  This will affect how stable the 
trailer is while being towed.

I bought a 2001 30' Excella and was told by the dealer that my 1972 
GMC with 350 CID engine would have no problem towing the trailer.  
They lied.  I had a white-knuckle trip on the 65 miles I drove to 
get it home.  Every 18-wheeler that passed me caused severe trailer 
sway and this was on completely flat interstate highway.

The next weekend, I bought a Dodge 3500 dually.  Don't short 
yourself on getting an adequate tow vehicle.  A 1/2 ton truck is too 
light.
