[A/S] Re: 94 Burb

Greetings John!

Unless I am mistaken, the '94 1500 Series Suburban had a maximum
trailer tow rating of 6,000 or 6,500 pounds (lower for 4WD). I had
a 1500 Series Chevrolet Club Cab Pickup with basically the same
drivetrain - - 5.7 Liter V8/TurboHydramatic/3.73 Differentials with
Z71 and heavy duty trailer tow package. I found the 1500 series (at
least in '95 trim) to be underpowered for my 6,100 pound (gross
weight) Overlander - - I traded the truck in 98 on my '99 Suburban
after only 45,000 miles of far less than satisfactory towing
performance - - I would hesitate to tow anything weighing more than
5,000 pounds with a '94/'95 1500 Series tow vehicle - - the 5.7
liter V8 (pre-VORTEC) just lacks the power for the trailers in
excess of 5,000 pounds (IMHO).

While I absolutely love my 2500 Suburban (after 135,000 miles) with
its 7400 VORTEC V8, I would be very hesitant to consider a 1500
series (pre-2000) with its smaller motor for a trailer much in
excess of 5,000 pounds.

Good luck with your investigation!
