well, I'll jump in here with some ideas...

I think it was amongst the vw vanagon westaflia synchro
guys that one guy had set up a similar system, but had
added a clockwork mechanism like they use on a telescope to
track planets or similar. it would follow the sun as teh
day wore on. you just had to properly orient it east-west
so it could track...thought it was a pretty ingenious idea!
now for mounting the solar setup? if you have the older
airstream with teh antenna pole on rear bumper, why not
mount it there? or design a similar mount on opposide of
bumper so you can have both sun tracking solar panels as
well as your tv antenna?
