We use a filter regularly, mainly to avoid bad taste of chlorine.  Coffee 
made with heavily chlorinated water tastes @#$%^&*.  Our usual procedure 
is to ask the campground host if the water is "safe".  Occasionally, we 
are advised to boil it before drinking.  When that happens, we usually 
look for another campground <LOL>.

Before connecting the external water supply hose, I spray all fittings 
with a 10% clorox mixture as a disinfectant.  (Getting sick on a trip is 
no fun.)  Then, I open the faucet, let a quart of water flow, and catch a 
glass full to check the taste.  It it tastes OK, I do not install the 
filter.  If it tastes "off", I hook up the inline filter.

My filter does affect the flow of water.  This is only significant when 
using the shower as the force of the spray is diminished - takes longer to 
rinse hair.
