Re: [A/S] Wood Door Latch

Terry Tyler posted a verbal description of a wooden block that will secure
the door while underway. If you can find his post in the archives, it will be
better than my attempt at a summary of Terry's excellent post.

The block is made from a piece of 3/4 inch wood stock. It is about four
inches long and 1 1/2 inches wide. Cut a notch in the front edge of the block to
fit around the cast aluminum door grap that is to the right of the door. The
back edge of the wood block is basically flat, but may need to be stepped to
fit the trailer surfaces. This gets you the basic block shape. Now start final
shaping so the block fits. You will want to shape most of the surfaces so
the block will fit tight when in place. To use the block, it is slipped through
the door grap and then rotated 90 degrees, so that the notch fits around the
door grap. The left end of the block should extend over the vertical edge of
the door.

I made a block like the above and used it while coming home from Florida. It
stayed in place and would have prevented the door from opening, if the latch
failed.

Again, the idea for this lock came from Terry Tyler.
