You guys need to first understand why you have no water at all. AFTER you 
get water running, IF the split copper has a leak, ONLY then should you 
worry about repairing the split. A previous owner might already have dealt 
with the split leak. If not, read on:

I had some split copper tubing years ago that I repaired with a piece of 
rubber tubing and a couple of hose clamps. I just hacksawed out the split 
section of copper and bridged it with rubber tubing. It was sturdy tubing, 
but I also wrapped it with wire to help it stand the pressure. It worked 
for years after that with no problem. Cost - maybe $4 or so. Mine was easy 
to get at.

Copper swells long before it splits, so the tubing near the split section 
would probably have swelled enough to prevent use of standard fittings or 
couplings on it.
