Hi Hunter,
I have many other ideas how we should spend your money. I wish that you were 
closer so that I could borrow the stuff I talk you into buying!
I balked at this thing for three years. I just couldn't justify the cost, and 
finally Nancy bought me one for my birthday (with my money!) and I don't know 
why I didn't do it sooner. It is great, and it only hurt when the check was 
first written. The pain went away pretty quickly, and I can throw it into any 
car, mine or borrowed. A tab sticks into the air conditioner vent and the 
cigarette lighter powers it up. It is so worth the extravagance! You will always 
have the correct map illuminated right in front of your face, without ever 
searching for it, or having to buy another paper one, and you never have to learn 
how to fold it up either! You can forget your paper directions and markers 
before your trip. The real plus of the Magellan is a full touchscreen keypad, so 
there is no need to deal with an irritating coded alphabet entry like the 
Street Pilot or many of the others. 
Put it on your credit card, and try it out for a couple of weeks. If you 
don't like it, or think that it is worth it, just return it, but I guaranty that 
you will keep it. I recommend the Magellan RoadMate 500, which is one down from 
the top of the line. You will have to buy an optional storage chip to load 
more than 6 or 7 states, and you should ask if it lists campgrounds. I have not 
been able to find that search parameter just yet. I will call them tomorrow to 
see if I am missing something.
