Hey Dick,
I, like you, don't use the voice directions. The first time I tried voice
commands, I was driving to visit my daughter at a new address in Charlotte,
NC. The visit was a side trip on my way to Gatlinburg, TN, so the route was
an "into the address from the Interstate and back out the same way to the
interstate" maneuver. The software sometimes gets confused as to which way
you are going on one of these backtracking legs of a trip. It handles this
confusion by switching the information back and forth to show what is next
for either direction as that direction is displayed. That got very confusing
for me trying to listen to the information that kept switching directions on
me. It is fairly easy to deal with when you look at the "Turns" information
because you have a good idea of how close you are to the stop point,
therefore, can tell which set of data to pay attention to. I think this is a
poor execution of the software, and it should be able to take the GPS data
and determine which direction you are traveling on the route. I have passed
this along to DeLorme also. I turned off the volume on the laptop during
that first trial run of the voice system, and later just turned off the
voice feature in the software. I found it to be very easy to just glance at
the computer screen and get all the information I needed.
