i've used it on a couple of tow vehicles, and they work great. The idea is
to produce a 'real-time proportional' signal to the trailer's electric
brakes - most electronic brake controllers have a little bit of a 'lag'
between the time you start braking the tow vehicle, and the arrival of the
signal to the trailer's brakes. Old style hydraulic/electric controllers
were true proportional (the amount of pressure on the brake pedal translated
immediately to the amount of pressure applied to the trailer-brakes)...
inertial or fixed-rate ('ramp') type electronic controllers don't do that.

The Jordan 'Ultima 2020' uses a wire cable attached to the brake pedal arm
connected to the electronic box to obtain the proportional signal... this is
a bolt-on bracket, and a simple installation.The electronic connections are
all made with the harness supplied with your tow-vehicle and the matching
harness supplied with the Jordan unit. If you have the hydraulic/adjustable
pedals, you need a special bracket from Jordan (included  free of charge,
last time i checked).

The latest and greatest electronic controller is the Tekonsha Prodigy, which
is of the 'inertial' type. I've not used it, but others swear by it.

all brake controllers (should) have a manual override, The principal
advantage of the all-electronic controllers is that some have a remote
control for the manual override, so that you don't have to fumble around
under the dash to find it... defeats the purpose somewhat in a 'panic'
situation, where you want to manually actuate the trailer's brakes first, to
stop fish-tailing or sway...
