On my 86' the battery compartments have to drain/vent holes located just
below the doors. I've got a plastic stick that I stick into one of the holes
and push down on the end, which raises up the end in the battery
compartment, thus lifting the battery to just above the compartment lip, and
then pulling the strap the battery slides right out. I have used a long
handle screw driver and a stick before that.
