RE: [A/S] Hot Water



You would have to replace the entire gas valve, and burner as well as
add the electronic control module.  The tank and actually burner are the
same, but that is about it.  You might call Atwood or Suburban
(depending on who made your water heater) and see if a retrofit kit is
available.  It may turn out to be almost as expensive as a whole new
water heater.

Also, while you can always add a "Hot Rod" electric element to ANY RV
gas water heater (they simply screw into the drain plug), they are only
about 1/2 the heating capacity of the factory installed electric
element.  If you decided to have a new DSI water heater installed AND
you want electric heating as well, you should have the unit ordered from
the factory with that option.
