RE: [A/S] Digest Number 1778

By 1993, most states permitted 102" RVs--at the urging of the Family
Motorcoach Association (big busses, like Prevost and Beaver).

My observation: Airstream, with it's unique shape, was not easy to add
slideouts to, and was loosing sales to Fleetwood's Avion brand with
slideouts. By going "widebody" Airstream could advertise more space
without compromising structural integrity (or incurring expensive design
and factory costs). An SOB with a superslide is a bit like a shoebox
without a top--structurally unstable. Adding reinforcement adds weight.
