The 'Escapees' is an organization for full-time trailerists, that deals
with, among other things, problems of living comfortably in a culture that
tends to punish people of no fixed address.

You touched on another point... there are lots and lots of airstreams around
because they were so well-made. Then again, the Spartans, SilverStreaks,
Avion, Curtiss-Wright, and Streamline trailers were likewise well-made...
just not as many of them out there. The vintage stick-built trailers have,
for the most part, decomposed. I started to do a rehab on a '60's
'Cardinal', but abandoned the project almost immediately... there wasn't
much 'there', there, anymore.

The WBCCI (official airstream club) has had, traditionally, a *median* age
in the mid 70's... a function of the demographics of retirees with enough
money to afford them... most of the rallies - particularly the regional club
events - seem to cater to retirees... but there is a groundswell of boomers
and gen-x'ers moving in, particularly through the Vintage 'intra-club'.

There are as many ways of participating as there are people who are doing
it... while i'm (supposedly) doing a renovation of a 1948 Airstream
'Trailwind', most of my aluminitis needs are fullfilled on this list, and on
the Vintage list. Having full-timed in Airstreams for years - back in the
citizen-band days, long before cell-phones and internet - i'm more than a
little intrigued by the possibility of full-timing, or extended vacationing
with all the comforts of 21st century home... and this list has people (like
listowner, Hunter) who are doing it in style.
