Re: [A/S] Re: Double axles conversion

I wouldn't - not on a 22' trailer, anyway. I *would* replace the leaf-spring
suspension with a trailing arm axle/suspension a la Henschen, and take into
consideration the added weight of upgrades (gray/blackwater tanks, heavier
appliances, etc.) and get an axle/suspension that is so rated.

I'd also add frame supports for the additional water/waste water tanks.

I would also design the axle length and position of the backing plates and
the wheel height/clearance and backset in relation to the wheel wells to
accommodate modern LT/Trailer radial tires - these would be a very tight fit
(or possibly not fit) with the original setup on your Cloud.

I would also investigate the possibility of using a composite 'sandwich' for
the floor - like that used in commercial aircraft floor systems - and when
you find a source for it, email me directly. New, that stuff goes for about
$800 for a 4'x8' panel... but a lot cheaper at the boeing surplus depots...
or that's what i've heard, over on the VAC list.

And don't plan on putting an airconditioner on the roof, unless you're
prepared to remove the inner skin and reinforce the ribs.
