[A/S] Re: Refrigerator - thermostat - ooops
Terry, you have my total sympathy. Many years ago, as a penniless
married student, our old heap of a van lost its clutch. I read the
books, learnt how to change a clutch, saved the pennies for a clutch
plate and thrust bearing, and set to work. I spent two days in
January, lying on my back, freezing in the open snow, removing and
replacing the gearbox by dropping it onto my chest and wriggling out
sideways. ( No pit, no jackstands, no nothing...).As I gratefully
tightened the last bell-housing bolts, and scraped my nose on the
gearbox for the last time, I noticed that the clutch pedal pivot
spindle had fallen out of the frame, causing the clutch to fail. One
minute with a wrench fixed the problem. All my efforts had been
unnecessary!
The basic problem for those of us that do our own repairs, is that
each task comes afresh with unique problems, and we have the one
chance to learn and fix it. Forty years later, I'm still learning the
hard way, but this site certainly helps a great deal. Well done,
Terry. Nick.
