Leroy says if you cut the drawer in half, you will no longer be able to use 
the slides.  There is one on each end and if the drawer is cut in the middle, 
it will fall down there.  However, there is an alternative.  We did away with 
the slides altogether when we rebuilt out sofa.  We nailed two strips of wood 
to the floor that the drawer sits on, added two rather large handles to the 
outside to pull it out with, and it works just fine.
