Re: [A/S] Not towing with a Ranger

Bill,

I do indeed have the extended cab with the 126" wheelbase/203" OAL.
The GVWR is 4920 lbs, GCWR is 9500 lbs, max trailer weight of 5600
lbs. I note right off that if you max out both the vehicle and the
trailer, you get a combined GCVW of 10,520 lbs, or 500 lbs over the
GCWR, so the ratings right from the get-go appear to be generous.
Still, they are a place to start.

Regarding the weight of the Globetrotter – with a dry wight of 2890,
in a previous post I gave an estimate of it's gross at 3700 lbs. but
the ones I've looked since seem to run around 1000+ lbs more loaded,
so I strongly suspect it's probably closer to 4000 lbs. Thus I get
the same 1000 lbs of trailer per liter of engine displacement as you
do.

As both you and Tuna pointed out, at least "by the numbers,"
everything tells me that my Ranger is adequate for the task, at least
here on the eastern seaboard. However, I can't help but wonder about
the law of diminishing returns. And as I said to Tuna, I don't want
to be the one telling the tale of how beautifully it towed right up
until...

Regards,

Joseph
