[A/S] Re: Generators for Airstream

I have two of the EU2000s (for air-conditioning).  Look in the Files 
Area of this Yahoo Group for the folder named Moe & Barbie's 34 
Limited, and in the Honda Generators folder for some pictures of my 
twin EU2000 setup. The neat thing about them is that the vent on the 
fuel cap has a switch to close it off, so you can lay the generator 
on it's side, without it dripping gas, to manuver through a 
compartment door (should still be stored upright though).  However... 
even when laid over, my generators won't quite fit though my 
compartment door.  I haven't tried to put them in the compartment by 
lifting the bed, but I believe they'll be too tall. 

But that's no biggie, since I have a pickup truck, and can carry 
hazardous things like generators and gas cans for them, or an extra 
propane bottle, and heavy or dirty items like a patio rug, firewood, 
etc. without the problem of having them in a passenger compartment 
with us.  IMO, a crew cab (or extended cab) truck with a longer 
wheelbase and a bed cap is much more practical than an SUV for 
trailering.

Let me give you my perspective on the 4Runner Limited.  Its wheelbase 
is only 110", which IMHO, is too short for a 25' trailer, even with a 
Hensley.  With V-8, its GVWR is only 5250 lbs with 2WD and 5510 with 
4WD, which after subtracting curb weights of 4165 and 4420, leave 
only 1085 (2WD) and 1090 (4WD) for payload for people and cargo in 
the SUV, a tank of fuel, and the weight of the hitch and the trailer 
tongue weight.  And that's assuming it's no heavier than the stated 
curb weight, which is often the case.  Assuming your tongue weight 
loaded is at least 600 lbs, this doesn't leave much capacity for 
fuel, people and cargo.  I think I'd make a trip to certified scales 
part of the test drive and then figure how much more weight, 
including fuel, you'd add when towing.
