Hi Debbie, I've had the cart before the horses in nasty weather too, 
exciting but scary.

An older trailer is going to need stuff. The question is does the price 
reflect what you need to do to it to make it useable.

By the way, except for the skin, windows and such, any good RV place can 
work on the guts.

If you know the price of a new AS about the same size as your's, you can 
  see what you saved even with some new stuff.

Renovate vs repair.  An often debated question.  Unless you make the 
trailer unliveable, or really wierd, a perfectly restored AS is not 
worth a whole lot more than a serviceable one. A lot of people who buy 
the 70's ones don't like the plastic wood and like to yank it all out 
and put real wood in. Many of them never finish..... besides, all that 
wood adds weight to the trailer.

I got used to the plastic wood, and let what the trailer is be the 
flavor of other things I might add. At first I thought doing a hippy 
heaven trailer would be fun, but I decided it would be boring after a 
while. Now I just keep loooking at it and go slowly, while i camp in it, 
Instead of going too nuts.
