Chris,
 Add up the cost and effort to install "proper modifications" and you'll
find that you just bought a p/u truck, probably a full-sized 1/2-ton outfit.
IMO, that's the only "proper modifications" that will get the job done, jack
up the radiator cap and drive the truck under it.

I've done some stupid things with too-light tow vehicles and won't again.
Someone was watching over me, you might not be so lucky.

Besides, it's just plain more comfortable to drive something that YOU are in
charge of, not something that is in charge of you.
