[A/S] A/S Tow Vehicle Shocks
Hi Carl,
I experienced the same condition with the 98 Dodge Cummins I bought last
year, very rough ride and the back end was skittish when stopping on
anything but a very smooth road. I checked the tire pressure and found it
at the recommended level for carrying the maximum load. The Owners Manual
section on tire pressure referenced the "Tire Inflation Chart included in
the owners package", which fortunately, was still in the glove box. This
chart listed different tire pressures for "Light Load" and "Full Load" for
various size tires and engine options. Using the light load recommendation
greatly improved the ride when the box is empty. It still rides like a
truck but the harshness as well as the skittishness is gone.
If this chart is not in your owners package, check with the dealer.
My chart only covers 16" wheels on 1998 vehicles so would not be applicable
to the 17" on your truck.
