Hunter - You had a switched wire problem if I'm right and the best 
protection was to disconnect while they worked on it and then use a voltage 
tester to check the power before you plug in.  I usually do that before 
plugging into a campground.  Worst case is a blown meter, about $15.00.

Your best bet would have been the following.

then what is your deductible.
