Ah..... On my first trip to Texas I drove to the Escapees headquarters in
Livingston. They told me I would have to boondock for a day or two until a
place with hookups opened up. I didn't want to so I left.

Drove through town and crossed Lake Livingston. When almost across the lake
I saw a gorgeous campground off in the distance to the left. I cruised along
slowly and found the sign at the drive for the campground... or so I thought.

I pulled in only to see the most decrepit campground in the world.
Unfortunately, I was in and had to go around to get out.

It looked more like a trailer junkyard than an actual living campground.
Thetrailers were ancientand next to each one was a junk truck or two.... some
with wheels, some without. It was a nightmare.

The road was so rutted and pot holey that I would seriously hesitate to ride
one of my horses down the drive and now I had my brand new truck and trailer
and had to continue forward.

I crept along...... lowering the truck windows just enough for the dog's
faces to show out, you know how dogs like to stick their noses out of open
windows. Of courseI hit the power locks. The trailer followed slowly,
heaving and lurching like an ocean liner in a hurricane, the truck dipping
and surging to a different tune.

I could see people start opening their trailer doors, and looking through
windows. I thought about the people in Deliverence. They were looking at me
with vacant eyes.

Believe me, without sounding too uppity... these people had never seen the
likes of my rig in this place before.... and I doubt since. My truck and
trailer were worth more than the whole place, real estate, buildings and all
the trailers and trucks....

The drive seemed endless, it was a circle.... maybe 200 yards and I would
guess it took 15 minutes to get around. I never touched the accelerator...
just kept my foot on the brake to keep the speed down. I didn't want to
subject my rig or my animals to this abuse, but not going meant staying.

Finally I was back on solid land..... I can't describe the relief.

I drove to Houston and stayed there... in a civilized place.
