Dick - This is not the answer for us travelers as most systems are local 
use only and require a monthly fee and are in the downtown area only.


The system in Raleigh, NC was tied to your phone bill and only useable in 
the 15 or 20 square blocks of the business district.
These systems are designed to provide access for the business person 
traveling in a city.   Per minute charges were added to your regular bill 
plus a monthly access fee.

For us travelers who don't camp in the downtown area this may not be the 
cure all.
