Most of the people on the Suburban site recommend synthetic oil in 
both the transmission & engine. Others thing you are wasting money. I 
changed to Mobil 1 at about 15K Miles in the engine. I do about 40% 
towing with the Suburban & still change at 3K miles if it was mostly 
towing miles. I change at around 5K if I haven't been towing much. I 
haven't changed to syn in the transmission yet. I probably will on 
the next change. Did you get the differentual oil changed at your 3K 
service? If you have a limited slip rear end, they recommend it, but 
its not included in the sevice. You need to ask for it & pay extra 
for it. I use a K & N air filter & put a higher performance filter on 
it. I can't tell any big benefit. Just enough that those diesels 
can't pass me. LOL. It does make more noise. That must mean 
something. I get 10/11 MPG around town & towing. 14/15 on a trip & 
not towing.
