[A/S] Re: what to buy to pull a 64 safari (29 ft; 4100lbs)?

A 3/4 ton pickup with a medium to large V-8 and an extended cab
would be a good choice. Put on a pickup topper to keep the air
flowing past the trailer front better. Long bed or short is OK with
the extended cab.

The 3/4s have heavier frames, springs, axles with bigger tow
ratings and bigger brakes. Chevy makes a light duty 3/4 with 6
bolt wheels. It would be better than a 1/2 ton since it has the big
axle but not as HD as the trucks with 8 bolt wheels. These are
heavier thanthe 1/2 tons and that is another plus for towing.
You can get by with a 1/2 ton but the 3/4 is a better choice. Then
you can pull the trailer and still haul stuff in the truck.
Diesels are the premium HD tow engine but pricey.
I prefer a manual tranny but thats preference.
