Hi Charles - Merry Christmas,
I have a 34' Front Kitchen that has two 40# horizontal tanks mounted so
they just protrude out of the front wall of the trailer, with a cover
that is hinged at the top and extends out over the "A" frame about 2
feet. The rest of the tanks stick back under the kitchen sink area in an
enclosure that has no openings on the inside the trailer. The tanks must
weigh about 10 lbs each when empty - very light compared to a steel.
Most people that go to fill them jerk them way up in the air when they
first lift them, because they expect them to be much heavier. There is a
roller across the front of the compartment for each tank to glide on as
you move them in or out of the compartment. They have an "over center"
locking device on a band that goes around each tank to hold them
securely while traveling. They are hooked to a regulator / switcher with
a red flag that becomes visible when a tank runs empty and switches to
the other tank if it is full and the main valve is open. They also have
sending units inside the tanks that send "level" information to a read
out on a panel in the range hood inside the camper. One of my tanks has
a + or - 100% inaccurate readout (read as worthless), while the other
one appears to be very close to accurate on the scale inside. The
problem is in the tank, sense the same tank gives accurate readings when
places in either cradle and hooked to either pickup wiring. The sending
unit on the tank has a float of some type that drives a magnet around in
a circle under a pickup unit. The pickup unit is easily replaceable,
sense it does not go inside the tank. I have replaced this outside part
of the sending unit on the bad tank, but still get the same results. It
either says the tank is full, but never moves as the tank is used, or
says it is empty as soon as the new full tank is attached. I still check
the red flag on the switcher every couple of days when we are using gas
on a regular basis.
Sorry I don't have any pictures, but Santa is waiting until the after
Christmas sale on Digital Cameras in order to get a good one for a
reasonable price.
