[A/S] Add'l trans cooling for '96 K2500 Suburban 454
For those in the recent "trans cooling" thread who have ~'96 Suburban
454s as pullers, would you mind letting me know just where you
installed your additional cooler?
I installed a B&M aluminum trans pan and a temp gauge, and things
looked fine until I towed up a grade that spiked the temp 'way higher
than I like. I'm tempted to install a stacked-plate low-restriction
cooler in series with the existing cooler. The one trans shop I've
talked to wanted to take the easy way out and replace the existing
cooler (which is a stacked-plate design installed in front of the
radiator) with a larger one. I can't see a convenient place to add
another cooler without going under the chassis (perhaps with a unit
which has an auxiliary fan). The downside is the increased
vulnerability to road debris. Money isn't nearly as important as
protecting the trans.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
