Bummer.

I had a similar situation in that same area, but the plumbing in 
question came out of the well you are describing up just high enough 
to where I could splice into it just before it went under the floor.  
I pieced everything together, as you suggested, and then only had to 
connect the splice.  It was undoubtedly contemplated in your model 
that one would get at it from underneath, which will be somewhat 
difficult.
