i too have noticed the deteriorating quality of the more common varieties of
'duct-tape' or 'cloth-tape' over the years. The 'good stuff' is still
available, however - colloquially called 'gaffer's tape'... used in
film/theatrical production. I've not found a handy source for this, not
being in 'the business' anymore; when i have found it, it's considerably
more expensive than the cr*p found in hardware/home centers...
