Digger,

In those days Airstream used both 6 and 10 gallon water heaters made by Bowen. 
Bowen is now Atwood. The 6 gallon Atwood water heater is used by Airstream and 
a dull gray replacement door is available which will fit on the old Bowen 6 
gallon.
If yours is the 10 gallon model, with two tabs, the original door was actually 
a piece of stainless steel that they made up in the plant. They will no longer 
make them. The thickest of the Airstream sidesheet aluminum is .040.
