Joe, it sounds like a bank vault solid set up. Impressive. I have a hard
fiberglass tonneau cover on the bed of my Ford pick up. Could the working
parts of the bike carrier be bolted to the cover -- although I like the idea
of being able to take the carrier off when it's not needed. Currently, we
are putting Susan and Phoebe's bikes in the truck bed under the tonneau
which is a PITA to do and takes up a lot of space.  I was considering a bike
rack to go in the front mounted hitch (which I had installed for trailer
maneuvering purposes) but your comment about having the bikes constantly in
the field of vision has given me pause about that option. Maybe I'll see if
a store will let me try the front rack in the parking lot to get an idea of
how bothersome that will be.
