[A/S] Polishing woes possibilities

From discussions on this list I have been led to understand that the 
aluminum on the earlier trailers had a special aluminum cladding on the 
exterior surface. It is this hard cladding that provides the potential 
for the high shine. It is possible for this surface cladding to be 
polished thru or destroyed from other chemical exposure. This exposes 
the softerner metal underneath that will not polish under any 
circumstances and may get worsen the more you polish. Maybe this is 
the problem and perhaps some of the more authoritative metal folks will 
speak to this.
