Not to be redundant, but have you moved the trailer since the problem 
occurred?  It might, in fact, be level, but it still could be that it was in 
a bind when you parked.  Either drive it around the block or move it back and 
forth...who knows?  Maybe you already have done this...don't know.  I do 
know, that when I had the same problem, the latch seemed 'free' like it maybe 
wasn't working, but it really was OK>  
If you are successful in opening it, you might want to file (not too much) 
the thingee that latches into the opening (real lack of vocabulary here :-)
