Dan,
The recommendation is to remove the filter once you
are parked.  The only sure way to know its effect is
to measure the temperatures within the fridge.  If you
have one of those wireless units, it would be pretty
easy to do.  I would pick some hot days with no wind
if possible.  Measure with and without the filter on
days where all conditions are hopefully equal.

Another thought might be measuring the temps within
the outside compartment, but I'm not sure where you
would want to place the thermometer.
